EmpCo-check.com

An AI compliance check that flags risky environmental claims in marketing content before the EU's EmpCo directive makes them a legal problem.

The problem

The EU’s EmpCo directive (2024/825) changes how companies are allowed to talk about sustainability. Claims like “climate neutral” or “eco-friendly” now have to be backed by concrete evidence, vague green wording is banned, and self-made sustainability labels are out. Germany writes this into its Unfair Competition Act (UWG) from September 2026.

For marketing and brand teams, that means years of websites, brochures and product copy suddenly need a legal second look, and doing that by hand is slow and expensive.

What it does

EmpCo-Check, built for hier&dann GmbH, automates that first review. You paste text, upload a document or drop in a URL, and the tool:

  • finds every environmental statement in the content,
  • rates each one by risk, with an explanation and the legal reference behind it,
  • looks at context, not just wording, since images, colours and design can turn a harmless sentence into a green claim,
  • suggests how to rephrase or substantiate the claim.

Why it’s more than a chatbot

A generic AI answer isn’t something a legal team can work with. The point of EmpCo-Check is a structured assessment: the same categories, the same reasoning and the same references every time, so its output can go straight into a compliance workflow.
